About This Blog

Welcome. My name is François Laflamme, aka Frank. I worked as an English teacher for a few years and I have three great passions in life: education, technology and policy. This blog revolves mostly around the first two. More precisely, the focus will be on educational tools for the independent learner. Although most of the resources discussed here will be free, I will also discuss reasonably-priced commercial products whenever an equally good (or better) free alternative does not exist.

To help navigation, I will label content using “categories” and “tags”. To see all the posts related to learning French, for example, you can click on the “LearnFrench” category in the toolbar on the left. Please note that there is a “French” and a “LearnFrench” category (and so on for other languages). The “LearnFrench” category relates to learning French, as just explained, while the “French” category indicates French-language content, i.e. content intended for speakers of the French language. Therefore, a website that aims at teaching English to native speakers of Korean would be in both the “LearnEnglish” and the “Korean” categories.

I have also enabled “ratings” for pages, posts and comments. If you try something discussed on this blog and you like it, please give it a good rating. If you try something and you feel like it was a waste of time, then please give it a bad rating. Please write comments explaining your good or bad rating as well. The ratings and comments will help other readers to choose among the many tools presented here and they will also help me see what has been useful and what hasn’t. If some tools are more popular than others, I will discuss their use in greater detail. Similarly, if the comments highlight a particular problem or need that has not been addressed, I will do my best to address it in a future post.
